Keep a record of what you notice, learn, and take away from your readings with the One & Three Card Tarot Reading Journal, an 8-page PDF with reusable recording sheets and beginner-friendly guidance.
Sometimes a detail catches your attention before you know why. Other times, something you read in your deck’s guidebook helps a card make sense. These sheets give you a place to keep both, along with reflections you can return to after you’ve had time to think about the reading.
Use a one-card pull when you have a few minutes, or explore three cards when there’s something you want to spend more time with. You can follow one of the included prompts or bring your own question.
Notice the Image Before Reaching for the Guidebook
The short introduction invites you to spend a moment with the picture on your card. What catches your eye? What seems to be happening? How does the image feel alongside your question?
You’ll find a little background on the Rider-Waite deck and a reminder that different artists bring different perspectives to their cards. Your deck’s guidebook can add to what you notice, helping you explore both your first impression and the creator’s meaning.
You don’t have to know every card before you begin.
Ten Prompts for One-Card Readings
If you want to pull a card but aren’t sure what to ask, the journal includes ten questions to help you get started.
Prompts such as “What strength can I draw on today?” and “What might I be overlooking in this situation?” offer a focus for reflection without needing a complicated spread.
Choose a question that feels useful that day, or use the recording sheet for a question of your own.
Five Three-Card Spreads with Explanations
The three-card section introduces a simple approach: give each card a position, consider each image, then look for connections between them.
Five suggested spreads give you somewhere to begin:
- What’s going on? Explore the situation, what you may be missing, and what you can do next.
- Finding my footing: Consider a difficulty, the resources you already have, and what might support you.
- Making a choice: Look at what draws you toward a choice, what gives you pause, and what matters most.
- A personal check-in: Explore what you’re feeling, what you might need, and one way to care for that need.
- Looking back and moving forward: Reflect on what you’ve learned, where you are now, and what you’d like to explore next.
Each spread includes a short explanation to help you consider the cards together. You can use the positions as written or create your own.
Two Recording Sheets to Use Again and Again
The journal includes one one-card recording sheet and one three-card recording sheet, with the same familiar structure for either kind of reading.
Each sheet provides space for:
- The card or cards pulled.
- The date and deck used.
- Your question or focus.
- Your first impressions before looking up meanings.
- What you discovered, including which meanings fit your situation and which don’t.
- One thing you can do, whether that’s a small action, reminder, or question to carry with you.
- Later reflections on the cards and their symbolism in relation to your question.
Print more copies whenever you need them, or save a fresh copy of the fillable PDF for another reading.
A Place to Look Back Later
A reading can mean something different after a few days or after the situation develops. The “Look back later” section gives you somewhere to record those thoughts alongside your original notes.
You might understand why an image caught your attention, see a connection you missed, or find that your first interpretation no longer fits. Keeping that record gives you a way to explore how you read the cards as well as what you learn about them.
From My Own Tarot Practice
I’m Jenn, the witch behind Mystical Zodiac. I’ve been pulling tarot cards for years, and I still notice details I haven’t seen before.
I keep notes because I want to remember what stood out before I reached for the guidebook, along with what I learned afterward. Looking back has taught me as much about how I read the cards as it has about the cards themselves.
I made these sheets for anyone who wants a simple place to do the same.
