10 Witchy Things to Do in July
Share
July is just around the corner: Hot, sticky, and full of potential. The days are stretching longer, the lemonade and sweet tea are calling, and if you're anything like me, you're already dreading the walk to the mailbox. But tucked inside all that summer heat is some seriously amazing energy just waiting to be used. Whether you're new to the craft or just looking to reconnect, here are 10 simple, witchy things to do this month that don’t require a lot of time (or air conditioning).
1. Make a Fire Spell Jar
July is ruled by the element of fire. So, gather a little jar, toss in some red chili flakes, cinnamon, and a tiny carnelian or red jasper stone. Whisper a wish into the jar (something bold and brave), then seal it up and place it in the sun for a few hours. Voilà! Sun-powered fire magic!
My own spell jar sits on my windowsill in some moon water. Both carnelian and red jasper are considered safe to be in water, so I like adding moon water to give it a little extra kick!
2. Moon Bath
The Full Moon in July is often called the Buck Moon. Take a moon bath by sitting outside (or near a window) and letting the moonlight soak into your skin. If it’s too hot, bring a bowl of cool water and dip your hands or feet in. Bonus points if you whisper your worries into the water and pour it out under a tree afterward.
I have a jasmine bush in my backyard where I put all of my ritual and spell aftermaths. I used to worry all the different ingredients might interfere with the growth of the bush, but it's managed to live through countless hurricanes and summer storms, so I think it likes being such an important part of my Craft.
3. Dry Your Herbs
It’s peak herb-harvesting time! Clip some rosemary, mint, or lavender from your garden or snag a few sprigs from the farmer’s market. Hang them to dry and use them later in spellwork, baths, or teas. Hanging them upside down in bundles looks super witchy and gives your kitchen some serious charm, too!
4. Make a Summer Altar
Switch out your altar for summer vibes. Think sunflowers, seashells, little sun symbols, or even a bright yellow candle. Add something personal, like a tiny toy from childhood or a note to your future self. Keep it light, fun, and joyful.

5. Create a Sun Tea Spell
Fill a jar with water, add herbal tea (or loose herbs like chamomile and hibiscus), then set it outside in the sun with a little intention. When it’s done steeping, drink it slowly and soak in the good vibes.
Of note: Food‑Safety Warning: Solar infusions never reach pasteurizing temperatures, so bacteria (e.g., Alcaligenes viscolactis) can multiply rapidly. To reduce the risk of food‑borne illness: disinfect equipment, use clean water, limit steep time, chill promptly, and discard leftovers. Pregnant individuals, young children, older adults, and anyone immunocompromised should use a traditional hot‑water infusion (≥165 °F / 74 °C) instead. This information is educational; follow local food‑safety guidelines and brew at your own discretion.
6. Make a Nature Offering
Collect a handful of wildflowers or herbs and leave them at the base of a tree or on your garden altar with thanks. Say something like, “To the spirits of summer, thank you for your warmth and wildness.” It’s a small but powerful way to give back!
7. Do a Fire Safety Candle Ritual
Because it’s July and everything is flammable, keep it simple: Light a candle in a fire-safe dish and focus on one thing you want to burn away (doubt, fear, maybe that awkward thing you said 5 years ago). Snuff it out with intention. Done!
8. Forage for Magic (aka Go on a Walk)
Take a walk and look for natural items with witchy energy, e.g.. acorns, feathers, pretty stones, or even oddly-shaped sticks. Bring one home and place it on your altar.
After Hurricane Milton, I found a stick that had the bark ripped off and looked like a naked person. My kid wanted to name it Carl. Carl now lives on my living room altar.
9. Spell-Infused Ice Cubes
Mix herbs or edible flowers into water and freeze them in ice cube trays. Use them in your summer drinks with a little intention, like peace (lavender), clarity (mint), or love (rose petals). I mean,: they’re pretty and feel like secret magick!
10. Start a Summer Witch Journal
Begin a journal just for the summer season. Jot down spells, signs, dreams, or random thoughts you have while half-asleep, dozing in the summer breeze. It doesn’t have to be fancy. Mine has doodles of suns and a grocery list stuck in the back. It’s still magic!
Whether you're dancing under the moon or just trying to keep your hair from frizzing in the heat (a daily battle for me!), July is a powerful time to be a little witchy. Keep it simple, stay hydrated, and let the sunshine charge you up.
And remember: Your magic doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. If all you do is light a candle and whisper a thank-you to the sky, that’s enough.
Stay mystical, friends!
