10 Witchy Things To Do In August

10 Witchy Things To Do In August

August is that subtle time when summer starts to ripen, the sun lingers a little longer, and we feel the tiniest whisper of the coming fall. It’s the perfect month to mix ease with intention. If you’ve felt too busy, too hot, or just plain stuck, this is your gentle nudge to reconnect to your practice, without making it complicated.

Here are 10 simple and magickal things I’m doing this month to stay witchy and present. Steal any that speak to you, and make them your own.

1. Make a Lughnasadh Offering (No Fanciness Required)

Lughnasadh, or Lammas, falls on August 1st and celebrates the first harvest.

You don’t need a full-on feast, which is great because there have been many a sabbat where I've planned a big, fancy meal and didn't even make it. Life happens, right? A slice of fresh bread, some seasonal fruit, or a handful of grain is more than enough. I like to whisper a thank you to the land while holding something we've gotten from the local you-pick farm; I feel really connected to nature when we're in the fields.

Put your offering outside or bury it at the roots of a tree and whisper a heart-felt "thank you."

2. Try a Relaxed Witch Garden Blessing

If your herbs or flowers survived the summer heat, now’s the time to bless them.

Here’s how I do it when I don’t feel like doing much:

  • Step barefoot into the garden (or, if you're like me, stand next to the towers of your hydroponic garden)
  • Touch a leaf or petal
  • Say a simple phrase like, “Grow strong, be well, bring peace.”

Boom. Done.

3. Cleanse Your Front Door (Especially if Summer's Been Chaotic)

I always forget how much energy gets dragged in through the front door. This summer has been so frenzied, I can actually feel the buzzing in my entryway!

A few ways to cleanse:

  • Wipe it down with lemon water and salt
  • Use smoke or incense to wave around the frame
  • Place a bowl of herbs or black salt near the entry (this one is hard to do in Florida because of the moisture, but it's my favorite)

Then say something out loud like: “Only peace enters here.”

I swear, the whole house feels calmer afterward.

4. Create a Sun-Charged Water Bowl

Fill a bowl with clean water and let it sit in the sun for a few hours.

This is a great thing to have on hand because you can:

  • Wash your hands (pun not intended) with it before a ritual
  • Use it to water your favorite plant
  • Pour a little over your altar to refresh the energy

The sun is still strong in August, so use it while you can.

5. Journal with the Virgo New Moon (Mid-August)

Virgo season brings earthy, practical energy, which is perfect for sorting, resetting, and setting goals that feel grounded.

During this new moon, ask yourself:

  • What routines actually support me?
  • Where could I use a little more order?
  • What’s one small step I can take to move forward?

Light a candle, pull a card, and write what comes up. Virgo doesn’t need a big show, it just wants you to take your magic seriously (but also gently).

6. Make a Witchy Iced Tea

There’s something lovely about using what’s in your kitchen for magic.

One of my favorites this month:

  • Peppermint (cooling)
  • Chamomile (soothing)
  • A slice of lemon (cleansing)

I steep it under the morning sun and drink it in the afternoon with a little gratitude stirred in.

7. Decorate with Sunflowers

Sunflowers are symbols of strength, joy, and solar energy. Buying a $10 grocery store bouquet counts as seasonal magick, I promise!

They look beautiful on altars and bring a bit of warmth to indoor spaces as summer winds down.

8. Do a Mini-Inventory of Your Tools

August is a good time to peek at your tools and see what’s working.

  • Is your incense stash dusty and unused?
  • Do you need a new candle for your ancestor work?
  • Have you been using those tarot cards you bought, or do you want to set aside time to practice more?

No guilt here. Just a little check-in so your practice stays aligned with where you are now.

9. Walk at Dusk and Call it a Spell

There’s something so perfect about the light right before sunset in August.

Take a slow walk at dusk and notice:

  • What’s blooming
  • What’s fading
  • What your body is holding

You don’t need to say anything. The act of noticing is enough.

10. Prep for Mabon (Just a Little)

I know, I know; it’s still hot. But if you’re like me, you’re already thinking about apples, cinnamon, and all things fall.

A few light touches you can do now:

  • Start collecting leaves or acorns for your altar
  • Make a Pinterest board of autumn ideas
  • Plan a ritual for the September equinox

Just enough to get you excited without rushing the season.

A Reminder

You don’t need to do all 10. Even just one of these is enough to reconnect with your magick this August.

Witchcraft doesn’t have to be loud or perfect. It just has to feel like you.

And if you’re craving something simple, beautiful, and made with intention, come check out what’s new in the shop. I’ve been busy making pieces that celebrate this delicious in-between season: One foot in summer, one foot ready for fall.

Stay mystical, Friends!
