10 Witchcraft Ideas for March: Spring Cleaning, Ostara Celebrations, and Growth Spells

March is a magickal time to connect with the changing energy of the season, focusing on renewal, growth, and awakening. As winter slowly releases its hold and spring begins to regain her footing, it's the perfect opportunity to perform spring rituals, cleanse your space, and set intentions for new beginnings! These witchcraft activities will help you embrace the magic of March, celebrate the energy of Ostara, and prepare for the season of growth.

When I was a kid, I always got excited when the first signs of spring appeared. We had big picture windows in the living room, and the heat from the house would sometimes make the crocus bloom, even if there was snow on the ground! No matter how many times it happened, I’d run outside without a jacket, only to realize it was still too cold to stay out there for as long as I wanted to. I guess I’ve always been impatient for that fresh start, and even now, as a witch, I love channeling that early spring energy into my magickal practice.

Here are 10 things every witch should do in March:

  1. Spring Cleaning Magic
It’s time for a good old-fashioned cleansing ritual! Sweep out the stale winter energy from your home, open the windows to let in fresh air, and smoke cleanse each room with herbs like rosemary or cedar (making sure your pets aren't in the immediate area as some are very sensitive to smoke). Sprinkle a bit of salt by your doorways for added protection.

  2. Welcome the Energy of Ostara
Ostara, the spring equinox, is all about balance, fertility, and new beginnings. Create a simple altar with symbols of spring—eggs, flowers, seeds—and light a green or yellow candle to invite the energy of renewal into your life.

  3. Plant Seeds for Growth
March is the perfect time to start planting—literally and metaphorically. Plant seeds in your garden, or even in small pots if you don’t have outdoor space. As you bury each seed, focus on your intentions for the coming months and envision what you want to grow in your life. I always tell myself I’ll label my seeds... and yet every year I end up with a mystery garden.

  4. Connect with Nature
Bundle up if it’s still chilly and head outside. Take a walk, meditate among the trees, or just listen to the birds chirping. Look for signs of spring, like budding leaves or the first blooms of flowers.

  5. Work with the Winds of Change
March winds are known for their strength and movement. Use this time to call on the wind to help you release what no longer serves you. Stand outside on a breezy day, take a deep breath, and visualize the wind carrying away any negativity or old patterns you’re ready to let go of. It's like giving Mother Nature your emotional clutter—free therapy!

  6. Create a Renewal Spell Jar
Combine items like lavender, basil, and rose petals in a small jar with a piece of paper listing your intentions for renewal and growth. Seal it with green or white wax, and keep it on your altar to remind you of your goals for the season. I keep mine on a windowsill where it can soak up that fresh, revitalizing spring sunlight.

  7. Refresh Your Wardrobe and Space
Channel that spring vibe! Clean out clothes you no longer wear, swap out your altar cloth for a lighter color, or add fresh flowers around your home. I love adding little pops of green and yellow decor to welcome that spring energy. Plus, it’s a great excuse to do a little witchy shopping.

  8. Embrace Egg Magic
Eggs are powerful symbols of fertility and new beginnings. You can dye them naturally with herbs and spices, use them in spells, or perform a simple egg cleansing ritual by rolling a raw egg over your body to absorb negativity (and then disposing of it outside).

  9. Create a Seasonal Tea Blend
Mix up a magickal tea blend using herbs like mint, lemon balm, and chamomile. Sip it mindfully as a form of self-care and grounding. This is my favorite way to relax after a long day—especially when I can enjoy it while watching the sunset from my porch.

  10. Focus on Self-Growth
Spring is all about growth, so focus on what you can do to better yourself. Read a new book on witchcraft, try a new type of divination, or set aside time to meditate each day. Even small steps can lead to big changes, and March is the perfect month to start.
