10 Cozy Witchcraft Ideas for November: Simple Rituals for the Darker Season

November is the perfect time to slow down and lean into your witchcraft practice with intention. The energy is softer now; quiet, cozy, and inward.

If you’re looking for simple witchcraft ideas for November or just want witchy things to do during the darker season, these cozy rituals will help you stay spiritually connected without feeling overwhelmed. Whether you’re a beginner witch or a busy practitioner, there’s magick here to warm your spirit and ground your energy.

1. Tend to Your Ancestor Altar

Samhain may have opened the door, but November is when I really feel the pull to sit with my ancestors. I like to freshen up the altar, dust off the frame, refresh the flowers or dried herbs, and light a candle in their honor.

You don’t need anything fancy. A photo, a stone, or even a recipe they used to make can act as a bridge. Spend a few minutes talking to them. You’d be surprised how comforting it can be.

I recently added an ancestral packet that my mom brought back from Salem. Susannah North Martin, one of the original accused during the Witch Trials, was my 10x great-grandmother. Honoring her reminds me that strength and magick often come from speaking your truth.

2. Make a Mulled Wine or Juice/Cider Spell

Simmering spices in the kitchen is a spell in itself. I make a pot of apple juice with cinnamon sticks, cloves, orange slices, and a star anise or two. While it simmers, I stir in intentions for peace, rest, and warmth for the winter months.

3. Do a Gratitude Jar

Gratitude spells don’t have to be big rituals. I keep a small jar by my desk, and all month long, I write down tiny things I’m thankful for, like doggie kisses, a stranger’s kindness, hugs from my kids.

At the end of the month, I read them all and sit with the feeling of gratitude. It definitely helps shift the energy!

4. Switch to Earthy Crystals

I start reaching for deeper, grounding crystals this time of year. Think smoky quartz, black tourmaline, petrified wood, and garnet. These stones help with energy shifts, seasonal blues, and grounding my scattered thoughts.

Tuck one into your pocket before heading out, or place it on your altar with a candle to root your space.

5. Bake with Intention

There’s something magickal about baking from scratch. The kneading and stirring becomes meditative. The rise feels alchemical. I like to whisper intentions for health, safety, and connection as I stir the ingredients or fold the dough.

If you’re not into baking, a quick store-bought roll with some added herbs or butter will still work as part of a kitchen witchery moment.

6. Create a Cozy Evening Ritual

The dark comes earlier now. I like to welcome it with a simple evening ritual, like lighting a single candle, pulling a card, sipping tea, and jotting a line or two in my journal.

Your practice doesn’t have to be elaborate to be meaningful. Even two minutes of calm is a spell of self-care..

7. Walk with the Wind

November winds always feel like messengers to me. Next time you’re outside and the wind picks up, stop and listen. Let it carry away something that’s been weighing you down.

You can even say it out loud: I release this now. It doesn’t get simpler than that, and it’s surprisingly powerful.

8. Make a Protection Sachet for the Winter

Winter can bring emotional heaviness for some of us. I like to make a little sachet filled with rosemary, bay leaf, cloves, and a tiny black stone. I tie it up with a ribbon and tuck it near my bed or in my coat pocket.

It's there when I need a moment of strength or a break in the darkness.

9. Read, or Listen To, Something Witchy (for Fun, Not Study)

So many of us get caught up in learning the craft that we forget to just enjoy it. Pick up a witchy novel, a seasonal poetry book, or even a cozy mystery with a magical twist. Let yourself sink into a story and remember that being a witch can also mean enjoying the magick in imagination.

I'm currently reading a series I recently found, and every night I look forward to escaping into the world the author created!

10. Rest (Yes, That Counts as Magick)

Let me say this clearly: Rest is spiritual. If your body says slow down, listen. Turn off the podcast. Leave the spell for another day. Make soup, cuddle under a blanket, and breathe.

You are still a witch even when you’re not doing.

Last week, I skipped my new moon ritual and went to be early instead. It was exactly what I needed!
